Bronze Enrolment 2020

Westhill Open Award Group of volunteer leaders invite applications to enrol for the Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Bronze Award level from local young people in S3 or above.

Here for you online

We encourage everyone who wants to work towards completing their Bronze Volunteering, Skills and Physical sections with email support from local volunteer leaders. Expedition section training and related walks and camping are on hold for now. We managed local Bronze Expeditions in September including camping overnight which was wonderful so we very much want to get teams trained and out walking and camping in summer 2021!

Expedition plans on hold

Hopefully you will have had a chance to look at the online training materials we have uploaded and we are now planning for outdoor training sessions weekly from 29th April at the Westhill Academy.

You can continue to refer to the online training with videos and weblinks on planning expeditions using compasses, maps, Trangia stoves for outdoor cooking, tents for camping, first aid, risk assessment and more. Hopefully we can meet all of you in 2021 in the spring sunshine for local training day walks to build on your online taster sessions then plan for teams of 4 to 7 members to get involved in Expedition section activities.

Volunteering, Skills & Physical sections

More on that early next year, meanwhile, please focus on your other Bronze Award sections of Volunteering, Skills and Physical which this year completion has been rewarded with a 2020 Certificate of Achievement! You can see more about how other local participants have taken on their sections but variations are in place during covid-19. You can still add your Expedition section to complete your Bronze Award (as long as completed before your 25th birthday!). Here is our enrolment event presentation from 2019 just for information.

Enrolment fees

With this in mind, the enrolment fee for Westhill Open Award Group this year is halved to £30. This covers the DofE Bronze Award level registration fee of £24 which gives you access to the online programme set up and progress planning and recording system (eDofE.org) leaving £6 towards our local costs.
